About Us
Joe Walters, Ed. D., Vice President, Research
As Vice President of Research at CS4Ed, Joe focuses on issues of product evaluation,
program development, curriculum, and assessment. He has spent nearly 25 years in the
field of education and education research. Joe started his career as a high school math
teacher, worked for several years with special needs teenagers, and then pursued doctoral
training at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. After graduating he worked for 15
years at Project Zero at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, investigating intelligence,
assessment, and technology and later at TERC, an educational R&D organization in Cambridge,
Massachusetts, where he directed projects that explored the role of Internet technology in
math and science education.
Joe spent several years in the for-profit sector, at Riverdeep
The Learning Company, a commercial developer of educational software, as the director of
assessment and evaluation. In his career, he has written over 50 proposals and directed
20 grant-funded research and development projects from Rockefeller Foundation, Pew Charitable
Trusts, Lilly Endowment, the Markle Foundation, Intel Corporation, the National Science
Foundation, the U. S. Department of Education, and others. He is the author of dozens of
papers and books and has lectured around the world on the psychology of human intelligence,
creativity, and technology.
