Miles Baird, Ed.M.

Director of Design & Development

Miles is an educator and learning designer specializing in the design of learning interventions which target second language development, computational thinking skills, and critical thinking around debugging and problem solving. He has spent more than 15 years using the latest technologies to help realize projects for clients in film, game development, and educational settings.
For nearly a decade, Miles has worked in K-12 environments and has experience using technology and learning design to support all stakeholders in the learning process, particularly in cross-cultural contexts. Miles spent 7 years in Taiwan beginning as a classroom teacher in language learning settings, eventually taking on roles coordinating organizational change and piloting new STEM programs. Miles also has over ten years’ experience with web development, and in 2022 launched a startup which streamlines report writing for ESL teachers across the global south. In 2023, Miles completed a Master of Education in Learning, Design, Innovation and Technology from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where he researched learning interventions for computer science education, as well as constructivist and constructionist approaches to learning. Miles has also authored research with the MIT Media Lab published by ACM.

Before all of this, Miles earned his bachelor’s degree in Film and Animation from the Rochester Institute of Technology, and spent several years as a freelance media producer in both video and game production. Currently, Miles serves as Maker-in-Residence at The Possible Zone, a large STEM non-profit in downtown Boston, where he is designing multimedia learning pathways for students and staff. In addition, he is a Teaching Fellow at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, as well as CEO and developer for his startup.
